St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch announced October 9 that the city will receive another $173 million in federal storm-recovery funding, FOX 13 and Spectrum News reported. The money is intended largely for households affected by Hurricane Milton.
FOX 13 reported that more than $120 million must go toward housing, including repairs and replacement homes where rehabilitation is not possible. The announcement concerns an allocation for recovery work, rather than completed payments to every applicant.
Welch said previously denied applications would be reviewed automatically without residents resubmitting, according to FOX 13. The station reported about 2,600 Sunrise St. Pete applications, with roughly 1,666 under review.
