Pinellas County Mosquito Control is sending low-flying helicopters over parts of St. Petersburg and Clearwater Thursday to treat mosquito larvae, with the work tied to the county’s latest dengue case count. The county says the helicopters will start mapping the treatment area between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. in the St. Pete area, but spraying will not begin before 9 a.m., and the flights may be noisy at low altitude.
What residents should know
The treatment window is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and uses Bti, a mosquito-specific bacteria the county says is not harmful to humans, pets or pollinators. Residents who want notice of future aerial treatments can sign up through Alert Pinellas.
